When we said “if something exists, it’s probably on Taobao”, we didn’t expect to find an official Muji store. 😂 But boy, weren’t we excited to chance upon it! The good news is that the price difference is quite significant when it’s cheaper on Muji Taobao, but the bad news is that not everything is cheaper.

We’ve found a couple of items that’s absolutely worth getting from Muji Taobao, and also some you may want to consider buying from Muji Singapore instead. But before we dive into that…
Why is Muji Taobao Hosted on TMall?
For non-Taobao veterans, here’s a crash course: TMall is like a subset of Taobao and a place for registered businesses to sell their products. The key difference between TMall and Taobao is that only official, licensed businesses can sell on TMall, while almost anyone (including your neighbour) can sell on Taobao.
That’s why when you click into brands like Sephora and Muji on Taobao, you’ll see your hyperlink change to Tmall and if you’re on mobile, you’ll see a Tmall logo. Fret not, this doesn’t affect your Taobao shopping experience at all, because all items can be purchased and shipped within the same buying process. You can just treat Tmall like a “verified badge” when you’re buying high value items!
🙆♀️ Which Muji Items Are Cheaper On Taobao?
Most of the things that are actually cheaper on Muji Taobao tend to be homewares like bed spreads and aroma diffusers. Also, we’ve not included the default 3% card fee charged by Taobao, because lately Taobao has been waiving this card fee a lot during their frequent platform-wide sale.
Pro tip: Add all your items to cart first and when the 3% waiver comes around, hit the checkout button!
1. Aroma Diffuser
If you’re a big fan of diffusing essential oils, you’ve probably already heard of Muji’s Aroma Diffuser. You likely also balked at the price and placed the minimalist diffuser back on the shelf. Well, for those of you who have your heart set on the Muji Aroma Diffuser, you can grab it on Muji Taobao for ¥287 (~S$57.30). Compared to Muji Singapore’s price of S$89, that’s ~S$31.70 cheaper. Nothing to sneeze at, that’s for sure.
Muji Singapore | Muji Taobao | Savings |
S$89 | ¥287 (~S$57.30) | S$31.70 |
2. Muji Washed Cotton Cover Set Queen Size
Muji’s bedding is extraordinarily soft. I can’t help but run my hands over them wistfully whenever I visit the Muji store, but I’ve always held myself back from buying a set since it was a little expensive. Now that it’s ¥450 (~S$109.60) on Muji Taobao, I might just go ahead and invest in these comfy sheets. It’s ~S$39.40 cheaper than the same set from Muji Singapore that’s retailing at S$149.
Muji Singapore | Muji Taobao | Savings |
S$149 | ¥550 (~S$109.60) | S$39.40 |
3. Washed Cotton Futon Cover (S)
If you find yourself setting up your sofa for visitors pretty often, you’re probably already familiar with how important a futon cover can be. You can snag one for just ¥150 (~S$29.90) on Muji Taobao, which is ~S$29.10 cheaper than the same futon cover from Muji Singapore that’s selling for S$59.
Muji Singapore | Muji Taobao | Savings |
S$59 | ¥150 (~S$29.90) | ~S$29.10 |
🙅♀️ Which Muji Items Are More Expensive On Taobao?
I’ve seen that smaller items like stationery, clothes, and shoes, are actually more expensive on Taobao, while larger items like rugs are usually the same price. So if you’re looking to snag some new kicks or threads, you could get them from Muji Singapore instead.
However, with that said, Taobao has lots of massive sale promotions throughout the year, so you could still keep an eye out because the discounts might just tip the scale in your favour.
4. Walk Support Water Repellent Sneakers (Ladies)
Japanese fashion lovers, this is for you. Muji’s minimalist sneakers are water repellent, which means you can also wear them during the monsoon season without squishing around in soggy shoes. They’re going for ¥168 (~S$33.50) on Muji Taobao, which is ~S$0.60 more expensive than the same pair in Muji Singapore that’s retailing for S$32.90.
Muji Taobao | Muji Singapore | Extra |
¥168 (~S$33.50) | S$32.90 | ~S$0.60 |
5. Water Repellent My Tote Bag (Vertical)
I have to put this out there: I love tote bags, and Muji’s are some of my favourites. They are a little plain, but it does mean that they’re unisex and go with practically any outfit. I thought of grabbing one from Muji Taobao for ¥98 (~S$19.50), but I realised it’s ~S$4.60 more expensive than Muji Singapore, which is only S$14.90.
Muji Taobao | Muji Singapore | Extra |
¥98 (~S$19.50) | S$14.90 | ~S$4.60 |
6. Cotton Waffle Face Towel
I’ll admit that it took me a little while to get onto the face towel thing. But, having a separate towel for your face is important and keeps your skin clean and clear. These little wash cloths are going for ¥60 (~S$12) on Muji Taobao, which is ~S$4.10 more expensive than the same ones at Muji Singapore that’s retailing at S$7.90.
Muji Taobao | Muji Singapore | Extra |
¥60 (~S$12) | S$7.90 | ~S$4.10 |
✈️ How Do I Ship Muji Items From Taobao to Singapore? Is it Expensive?
Fortunately, Taobao’s consolidated shipping is very affordable and it’s calculated by the first 1kg and in subsequent 0.5kg blocks. This means you can consolidate all of your Taobao purchases into one order, making it worthwhile to ship everything together – no matter how many Taobao stores you shop from.
So on your next Taobao retail therapy (whether it’s cute home fitness equipments or aesthetic room decorations), go ahead and add some of these cheaper Muji items into your cart too! You can bet that my Aroma Diffuser is already on its way. 😉
