First thing’s first: What can you expect from the Disney Plus streaming service?
It surely isn’t new news by now, but Singapore is the first market globally to launch all six Disney+ content brands! This includes Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, National Geographic, and Star – covering most of what we know of pop culture!
Boasting a wide range of programmes, you can expect over 650 films and more than 15,000 episodes of content. To put things into perspective, if you watch 1 episode or film a day, you will need more than 40 years to complete everything. We haven’t taken into account potential additions to the existing lineup, FYI.
Who doesn’t love a cute profile picture? Upon signing up, you’ll be prompted to create a personal profile, which is great if you’re sharing the account with your family and friends. With more than 50 avatars to choose from, the inner kid in you will probably be spoilt for choice – we definitely were!
What About Disney Plus Singapore’s Content?
Well, are you in for a TREAT.
Marvel Studios Movies
For the Marvel series, apart from the Disney+ Originals like WandaVision and 616, you can also expect to feast your eyes on every single Marvel Universe film ever made. True blue Marvel fans will also be delighted to know that they can get their hands on classics like the Original 1992 X-Men TV series, and upcoming releases like Loki, Ms. Marvel, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, to name a few.
Pixar
Over at Pixar, we’re looking at a good mix of our favourite films like the classic Toy Story and Incredibles, to newer releases such as Soul and Pixar Popcorn. One thing we like about Pixar films is the attention to detail when it comes to the graphics. Accompanying many of these films will be the Dolby Vision® and Dolby Atmos® technology, which means that you can enjoy the cinema-level picture and sound quality from the comforts of home! The WFH arrangement suddenly sounds super appealing, doesn’t it?
National Geographic
For those who enjoy learning more about our wild and wonderful world, National Geographic’s content list seems pretty promising too! From documentaries about ancient civilisations to commentaries on space tech and innovation, and even ones on our favourite furry friends – expect to uncover a deeper appreciation for what our world has to offer and beyond.
Star
If you’re wondering what Star is, here’s some background for you. It’s essentially the world’s answer to Hulu since it is a US-exclusive streaming service. You can expect to find content catered to a more mature audience, with iconic shows like Family Guy, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, and Grey’s Anatomy thrown into the mix. You’d be surprised by the gems you’ll stumble upon!
Star Wars
Now that we’ve covered Star, here’s Star Wars for the die-hard fans! All we can say is… be prepared to forego your social life for a while. From movies to different series, you also get to expand your knowledge through their special shorts and episodes!
Disney
Last but not least, the Disney lineup has proven to be quite a hit and probably the one we’re most excited about! From newer releases like the live-action adaptation of Mulan to classics like The Lion King, and even vintage Disney films, expect to be spoilt for choice! For those who spent their weekends watching Disney Channel, you’re in for a treat too. Expect to take a HUGE nostalgia trip with OG shows like Lizzie McGuire, Kim Possible, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Even Stevens!
Another cool feature available on Disney+ is GroupWatch. It’s similar to Netflix Party, except that you don’t have to download an additional plug-in for this baby to work! Just send a calendar invite to your friends who’re also on Disney+ and start bingeing on your favourites! (Tip: if you and your friends are sharing an account, just remember that only up to 4 unique users are allowed to use it concurrently.)

Just by looking at the basic perks and general price structure, we think that given the sheer amount of shows available, Disney+ seems to be the most attractive, with Apple TV+ coming in a close second.
However, if you’re a huge fan of Netflix Originals or would like to discover more obscure shows, then perhaps your Netflix subscription should still stay.
While Amazon Prime might be one of the cheaper streaming services, the shows on it are limited and may even be considered dated to others. On the other end of the spectrum, HBO GO is probably on the pricier side, and while it might be a good alternative if you’re a fan of the HBO originals, the other perks don’t quite stack up.
And for those who already have an existing Viu Premium account, you might notice that it’s relatively cheaper than Disney+ and Netflix. However, the content you get is more niche, specialising in Asian content only.
Why Get Disney Plus Singapore If Disney Is On Netflix?
If you’re a discerning Netflix-Disney fan, you may have noticed that your favourite Disney shows have been slowly disappearing from the catalogue. In fact, this move has been several years in the making, especially since Disney announced back in 2017 that it was going to launch its own streaming platform.
While you might be able to find a handful of Disney films and series on Netflix, a large proportion of them have already been removed and are only available exclusively on Disney+.
To Subscribe, Or To Not Subscribe To Disney Plus Singapore?
If we’re being honest, we think it’s a pretty good deal. And since we’re spending a lot more time at home these days, it doesn’t hurt to have more shows in our back pocket in case we run out of things to watch on other streaming services.
Plus, $11.98 isn’t that expensive either. It’s roughly the cost of 2 cups of bubble tea, or an upsized double McSpicy meal! If you opt for the annual subscription, then it becomes even cheaper than your basic Netflix subscription.
