How to Get to Penang from Singapore
Travelling from Singapore to Penang is straightforward. The most convenient way is to fly, with several airlines such as Scoot, Air Asia, Jetstar and more offering direct flights from Changi Airport to Penang International Airport. What’s The Best Time to Visit Penang?

Penang, like many other Southeast Asian destinations, is hot and humid year-round.
The ideal time to visit Penang is from late November to February to avoid the thunderstorm season. However, this period is also the peak tourist season due to school holidays and year-end breaks, so expect higher prices and larger crowds. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons.

Getting Around in Penang
1. Taxi/Grab/ Private Hires
Taxis and Private Hire like Grab are widely available options and probably the most recommended for ease and convenience.
2. Bus
One of the most affordable modes of transport in Penang is the public bus. Bus 101, 201, and 204 are super useful for tourists. You can catch buses from major hubs like Komtar Bus Terminal in George Town.
George Town offers a free shuttle bus service called the CAT (Central Area Transit), which covers major attractions and is a convenient way to get around within the city centre.
3. By Car
If you’re driving into Singapore, you will probably already be going around by car. If not, you may consider car rentals in Penang. However, roads in Georgetown are narrow and parking can be difficult.

After breakfast, visit Kek Lok Si Temple, one of the largest and most important Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. To get to Kek Lok Si Temple from Georgetown, the easiest way would be to drive or hail a taxi/private hire. The drive should take about 20-30 minutes.
This temple is unlike any other you’ve seen before. The area is so large, you might want to dedicate at least 2 hours to explore the temple grounds. As it is one of the important Buddhist centres in the region, it is a pilgrimage site and hence will often be busy, particularly around Chinese New Year.
The highlight is the towering statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Kuan Yin, which stands majestically, 30 metres tall, overlooking the temple grounds. The second highlight would be the seven-storey-high, main pagoda called the “Pagoda of the Ten Thousand Buddhas”. This pagoda has a unique combination of Chinese, Thai and Burmese Buddhist architecture, reflecting the temple’s mix of Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism.

Tips for visiting Kek Lok Si Temple:
- Visit earlier to avoid the afternoon heat
- Start from the top – take the Funicular to the top and visit the attractions in descending order.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are easy to move around in as there will be a lot of walking. As it is a temple, also take note to dress appropriately.
- Bring cash – the funicular ticketing counter accepts cash payment only.
- Be prepared to wait for the funicular as according to many visitors, the waiting time can take about 30-60 minutes during peak hours.
- Make sure to carry water, especially if you plan to walk and explore extensively.

From your lunch spot, drive to the Penang Hill Lower Station, then take the funicular train up the hill to see a panoramic island view. There, you can stop by The Habitat, a nature reserve with canopy walks and beautiful gardens. Due to the altitude, you can expect the temperature at the summit of Penang Hill to be cooler.
