This one is a must-have if you have a sweet tooth, because of its combination of sweet flavour, density, and starchy aftertaste. The density provides a very satisfying crunch, whilst the slight hint of sweet potato keeps you crunching and wanting more.

When I first bit into it, I wasn’t particularly impressed because it was sweet, and nothing else. Then as I started munching more, the corn made itself more apparent and it was complimented by the salty coating. By the time I was done, I kept reaching for more. Addictive!

It might seem small and un-threatening but don’t let its size fool you! The lime and lemongrass attacks your tongue on the first bite, where it then evolves into a slightly spicy flavour. When you’re done, there’s the very strong aroma of fish sauce and shrimp lingering on your tongue, which is fine for the packaging it comes in. It’s very strong and potent, but not mindlessly munch-able.

This snack advertises itself as being baked, and I did get the impression from biting into it. It’s an incredibly crispy and crumbly buttered bread, and they’re quite thick and dense. However, all manner of density betrays its appearance when you crunch on it as it melts away in your mouth, letting the butter aftertaste blossom, as well as its resulting sweetness.

True to its packaging, the Lay’s KFC Original Recipe Chicken potato chips tastes exactly like the KFC Original Recipe batter. The crinkle-cut style chips seem to enhance its crunchiness, and all the time while you’re crunching the batter never escapes your tongue. There’s a slight chicken stock aftertaste to pay homage to the chicken that KFC batters it on, but even if without the chicken stock, I think it’s a winner.
6. Lay’s KFC Wingz Zabb (Spicy) Potato Chips

When you first bite into it, you will be treated to the strong citrus of the lime. As with the Lay’s KFC Original Recipe Chicken potato chips, this is crinkle-cut style, and it does its job or enhancing the chips’ crispiness. Upon further crunching, it becomes spicy and the sourness of the lime takes over. Don’t be fooled by the sourness though! The chips retain their saltiness and chicken taste throughout, and close off with a slight chicken stock aftertaste.
7. Lay’s Sweet Basil Potato Chips

Even though it’s named “Sweet Basil” these chips are anything but sweet. The crinkle-cut chips hits your tongue with the salty and savoury profile, then the basil aroma takes over. It closes off with very, very slight spicy aftertaste. It’s incredibly simple and evergreen, I’d buy this at anytime of the year.
8. Lay’s Scallop Potato Chips

Whilst not as strong or impressionable as the other flavours of Lay’s, this scallop-flavoured chips prize itself for being inoffensive, subtle, and palatable. It starts off with a salty and scallop taste, but when you crunch it even more, the garlic starts to come out. It ends off with a very slight buttery aftertaste, which is fine for the most part, but out of character with the rest of the Thai snacks.
9. Lay’s 2-in-1 Barbecue Shrimp & Seafood Sauce Potato Chips

This 2-in-1 chips can be confusing, but in a good way! It’s like a lottery as to which kind of flavour you would get whenever you reach into the bag. While it doesn’t beat having seafood in Bangkok’s Chinatown, the flavours are pretty darn close for a bite of shrimp chips and then another with seafood sauce.
10. Manora Fried Taro Chips

Do you remember the wheel-shaped childhood snack? The Manora Fried Taro Chips are very much that, but elevated. Where the former gets chewy and rubbery after a while, the Manora chips retain their lightness and crispiness, making them incredibly addictive. Its simple flavour profile, lightness and aftertaste makes this a crowd favourite.
11. Cornae American Corn Snack (Cheese Flavour)

They might call themselves “American” but the interpretation of the flavours are very much Thai. You don’t taste the cheese’s pungency as much as the overpowering aroma of the corn, and this is helped by the fact that the chips themselves are very dense. There’s an unmistakable corn starch aftertaste to it, so if that’s not to your liking then you’ll want to reach for the other, many flavours.
12. Little Farm Crispy Garlic Bread

Much like its sweet and buttery counterpart, it’s very dense and crumbly. It retains its sweetness but also adds a salty and garlicky flavour profile, however slight it may be. Would have preferred it to be a little stronger, but that may not be to everyone’s tastes. This was definitely made to appeal to a large audience.
13. Koh Kae Shrimp Crusted Peanuts

This is one of the perennial office snacks to bring when you return from Thailand, and the good news is you can even find it in Singapore, at the Thai Supermarket! It’s not hard to see why it’s a favourite; it’s got a well-balanced flavour profile and the shrimp taste is inoffensive. However, I do wish that the peanut was bigger. 😝
