1. Keijometo

This one’s got my vote for being the most aesthetic option on the list. Picture a raw, concrete, industrial-themed cafe with all the makings of a hipster art gallery 10 minutes away from Woodlands checkpoint.

Come for their Mentaiko Tamagoyaki Sando (RM20/~S$5.70) and Salmon Ochazuke (RM30/~S$8.55), but don’t leave without trying their Watermelon Matcha Latte (RM15/~S$4.27).
Address: 3, Jln Chengai, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: Tuesdays to Sundays, 11 AM to 7 PM. Closed on Mondays.

2. Good Morning Food Truck (早尚好)

Breakfast in Taiwan is a big deal! But instead of hopping on a plane, why not take a short 30-minute drive from Woodlands Checkpoint to Good Morning Food Truck instead? But take note, the food isn’t actually being served from a food truck. These delicious no-frills sandwiches are doled out from the confines of a quaint cafe in Taman Ekoflora.
Go straight for their Kimchi Pork Egg Toast (RM10.90/~S$3.11) or their popular Cheese Ham Egg Toast (RM10.90/~S$3.11) — and wash it all down with an icy glass of homemade soy milk.
Address: LOT I, Jalan Ekoflora Utama, 81100 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: Wednesday to Monday, 7 AM to 3 PM. Closed on Tuesdays.

3. Nimmies Pastry Cafe

Craving for some Crombollonis? Nimmies Pastry Cafe is probably your best bet. Set in a mansion between KSL Mall and Taman Sentosa, this cafe is a favourite amongst road trippers and families. Start with the Chicken Cutlet Green Pesto Tagliatelle (RM38/~S$10.83) or Arab Maghreb Shakshouka (RM29/~S$8.27). But save some space for their speciality a.k.a the Crombolloni (From RM20/~S$5.70) which comes in Taro, Nutella, Pistachio Berry, and Kinder Bueno (their newest flavour!).
Into the savoury stuff instead? Check out their Hoe Lemak Croissant (RM16/~S$4.56) or Chili Salted Egg Crab Crossaint (RM18/~S$5.13). Yum!
Address: 171, Jln Beringin, Taman Melodies, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

Reminiscent of Kuala Lumpur’s famous cocktail bar PS150, Merah Kitchen & Bar eludes the same eclectic energy whilst strategically catering to a younger crowd with its retro neon-lit interior. There are a ton of board games, video games, and card games here to help you while away the hours — as well as a myriad of finger foods and alcohol to keep you going.
