We sat down with Belicia Lim to chat about her journey at YouTrip — the joys, the career lessons, the challenges, and more in her four years at the company. Read on for the 411.

What do you do at YouTrip, and what aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?

I am the Senior Marketing Manager at YouTrip. There are many things that I love about my role! To start off, I enjoy the autonomy given to shape the YouTrip brand to what my team and I envision it to be. Being in a lean team also allows us to be flexible when ideating, and efficient during implementation — moments like these are what I value in a startup environment which might be difficult to find in a larger corporation. 

What I enjoy most, is also the opportunity to be on the ground and stay close to our YouTrip community. As a marketeer, I’m able to engage with our users on an even more personal level through the activities and channels we manage. I cherish these moments and it’s these experiences that inspire my team and me to continue doing what we love to do at YouTrip.

How has the YouTrip journey been for you thus far?

I was blessed to have had the privilege to witness YouTrip’s birth and growth in Singapore. Being part of the pioneer batch has allowed me to experience all facets of the business — from developing the product to growing the team. I remember how we started as a mere group of 5 in Singapore back in 2018, managing a customer base that was growing exponentially. Despite the limited resources, our strongest defence was a passionate team fueled with a mission to make YouTrip work — which we succeeded in doing! 

Fast forward to where we are today, I’m proud to say that we’ve come a long way. I strongly believe that this is only just the beginning!

What do you like most about YouTrip?

It’s really the people in my team and the extended YouTrip community that makes me enjoy what I do. I have a very dedicated team that’s passionate about driving the YouTrip brand. Seeing them strive for their best motivates me to do even better as well. Additionally, I have awesome coworkers who are a joy to work with which makes working in YouTrip that much more enjoyable!

What has been the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

That it’s alright to fail – what’s most important is that you pick yourself up fast, learn, and charge forward with a sharper mindset.

Being in a start-up, it’s inevitable that we face situations that require us to be malleable to change. I can’t count the number of times we’ve had to make decisions with risks involved – and with that, it sometimes comes with mistakes. But what I found was the most important factor that turned the team around fast, was a united mindset towards quick-thinking and improvement. Thankfully, I have a great support system within YouTrip that’s willing to work through the ups and downs of our growth journey.

If given a chance, who would you like to exchange work with for a day at YouTrip, and why?

Perhaps, the product team! We’ve so many interesting new features in the pipeline (can’t say what yet), but looking at where our trajectory is heading product-wise, I think it’ll be amazing to learn more about the development process!

Do you have a personal mantra, what you think is important in life?

My personal mantra is all about the continuous journey to seek ‘what’s next’. I believe it always starts by asking ‘why’ and ‘why not’ in the little things we do. By challenging the status quo, you’ll start to realize how much more you can achieve. While this is something I bring to work every day, it is also a mantra I aim to abide by throughout my life as well.
