A road trip definitely requires a trusty vehicle, whether that’s a campervan, car, or motorcycle.
Typical requirements apply, you need to be at least age 21 with a valid driver’s licence (some companies might charge additional, or impose restrictions for drivers under 25). Just in case, make sure to also get insurance coverage for everyone on board.

✅ You should also be aware of the local conditions and hazards, such as wildlife, weather, roadworks and speed limits.

It’s time to get our hiking shoes dusty and hands sweaty as we take on the Wineglass Bay Lookout track. This track is of moderate difficulty as it has steep hills and rough surfaces, but don’t worry, there are seats along the way. This track takes 1.5 hours and spans a 2.6 km return distance.

Next, move to Bicheno for some penguin watching! No, they won’t be wearing little tuxedos, but they’re still cute as a button. If you’d like to spot them yourself for free, you can head to Redbill Beach on the western side of town, or Waubs Beach in the middle of town. Alternatively, you can join paid tours such as Bicheno Penguin Tours, for experts to guide you. A little heads up, though. Please respect the birds’ boundaries and don’t get too close to them ❗️
As the penguin tours usually start slightly before dusk, you might have some time to spare. You can check out The Blowhole, a famous granite geyser in Bicheno with great views, or simply take a dip at any of Bicheno’s beaches.
Lastly, head to the beautiful Bay of Fires.
