If 2020 and 2021 taught us anything, it’s the importance of mental health. And so, as we transition into 2022, here’s how we’re planning to better care for our emotional, physical and mental well-being.
At this point, I’m sure we’re all just tired. Hope seemed to have left the building when the Delta variant made its appearance and flat-out migrated when Omicron showed up. Hence, exhausted and afraid to hope, we stare at our journals wondering what our resolutions for the new year should be. Do we dare dream of life as we knew it, or even a semblance of it, in 2022? Regardless, if the past two years taught us anything — it’s the importance of self-care and mental health. So, if taking better care of your emotional, physical and mental well-being is at the top of your list as well, keep reading for some practical tools on our list of new year resolutions 2022!
New Year Resolutions 2022 #1: Talk To Someone
One of my favourite books of all time is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by therapist Lori Gottlieb because it completely normalises and humanises the whole process of therapy. I myself tried therapy when things got rough in 2020 and I highly recommend it. While I went straight for in-person sessions, I understand that that might be overwhelming for many people. Thus, we were thrilled to find out about Noah and Zoey who provide affordable and accessible help online.
Catered for women, Zoey provides individual therapy sessions starting from S$96.30 (which is below the usual market rate of S$150). Not only will you get screen time with a proper licensed clinical psychologist, but you’ll also receive continued support till your next session — each lasts about forty-five minutes.
You begin by taking a five-minute survey that will identify areas that you might like some help in, any treatments that you might need and then the actual consultation planning. If you require medication, it’ll be delivered right to your doorstep in four hours!
While individual therapy sessions for men is in the pipeline for Noah, the website provides help for topics that you might feel uncomfortable talking to close friends about in the meanwhile — whether that be sexual difficulties or hair loss problems. Whatever it is, know that you’re not alone and there’s no shame in getting the help you need to survive and thrive!

New Year Resolutions 2022 #2: Get Organised
If there’s one gift I always welcome around Christmas time, it’d be the planner. Planners are great, especially if you’re as disorganized as I am. Keeping track of your schedule can help you free up more for priorities such as time with loved ones, keeping fit and of course, for self-care. Lucky for you, there are a ton of great stationery brands in the market, as well as cute work essentials to keep your desk and life in check!
New Year Resolutions 2022 #3: Stretch It Out More Often
According to the American Osteopathic Association, yoga can significantly improve one’s mental well-being. If you’re dealing with anxiety and general stress, perhaps adding some breathwork and stretching exercises into your day-to-day might help you gain the clarity and calmness that you seek. In addition to helping you catch your breath, I love how yoga works on the various areas of your body — whether that means strengthening your core, opening your hips or just sharpening your focus in general.

New Year Resolutions 2022 #4: Aromatherapy Is A Thing
If you can afford it, splurging every once in a while in scenting up your personal space can do wonders for your mental health. Of course, this is not to be a substitute for any medication given to you by your doctor. But essentially, aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit — according to John Hopkins Medicine, the scent molecules travel to the brain and directly impact the amygdala, the emotional centre of the brain. Thus, it helps to alleviate conditions such as anxiety.

New Year Resolutions 2022 #5: Work It Out
According to the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, researchers lament that exercise is an often-neglected intervention in mental health care. By now you know that these post-exercise improvements in mood are caused by the increase in blood circulation to the brain and, thus, on the physiologic reactivity to stress. More specifically, jogging, swimming, cycling and even walking, have been proved to reduce anxiety depression, and by extension, all negative vibes. In general, all you need to do is incorporate a good 30 minutes of exercise of moderate intensity for three days a week and you’re golden. Why not start with these hikes in Singapore?
