Can you really say you’re a true Ramly Burger fan if you haven’t had a taste of the real deal? We’re here to spill the tea on how you’ve probably never tasted a real Ramly Burger plus places to go in Malaysia to get your fix!
As long as you have lived in Singapore, we’re 101% sure you’ve heard about Ramly Burgers (a.k.a the Pasar Malam Burger). But did you know that the Ramly Burger is actually banned in the country? That’s right, it looks like most of us have not had a taste of the real deal… Yet.
Just to give a little context for our international friends or those who aren’t in the know, the Ramly Burger originated in Kuala Lumpur and consists of a standard beef patty wrapped in an eggy parcel. It’s then topped with margarine, ketchup, Lea and Perrins, and a sprinkle of Maggi seasoning. Unfortunately, the real Ramly beef patties, which are sourced from India, are banned in Singapore as it isn’t approved by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA). To combat this issue, local Ramly vendors swapped out the patties for Singaporean brands such as Tasty, Sultan Burger, and Armiya.
This means that any Ramly Burger purchased and consumed in Singapore hasn’t been the ‘real deal’. Fans of the burger are quick to point out the differences in taste and quality between the Malaysian and Singaporean versions. Want a taste? If you’re keen to get your hands on the authentic Ramly Burger, here is a list of ‘must-try’ places in Malaysia!
