Explore the famed My Khe beach coast of the Son Tra Peninsula, and marvel at the swooping bird’s-eye-view of the city from the top of the Linh Ung Pagoda — all from Vietnam’s coastal gem, Da Nang.

As fondly pointed out by Phil Rosenthal in Somebody Feed Phil — wherever you go in Vietnam, people are always smiling! Of course, that includes the coastal city of Da Nang which happens to be the fifth-most populated city in the country. She lies on the coast of the South China Sea at the mouth of the Han River and flaunts some of the world’s most acclaimed beaches and collection of bridges. And then there’s the food. If you’re searching for a balanced getaway that allows you both the luxuries of manmade artifices as well as beautiful natural seascapes, then make sure to look out for the Da Nang VTL beginning 27 March.

 🇻🇳  Da Nang VTL: Sight-Seeing

My Khe Beach

Just five kilometres from Da Nang’s city centre, My Khe beach is the seaside destination for tourists and locals alike. This 10 kilometre-long beach stretches from the base of the Son Tra Peninsula to the Marble Mountains of Ngu Hanh Son. With an unhindered view of gentle mountainous slopes, smooth white sand, and clear warm waters year-round, My Khe beach is recognised as one of the most attractive beaches on the planet by Forbes Magazine, and also ranks #9 among Tripadvisor’s 88 things to do in Da Nang.

Dragon Bridge

Singapore To Da Nang VTL 2022: Cost Guide To Flights, Attractions & More

The Dragon Bridge is one of the three famous bridges you can find in Da Nang, along with Han River Bridge and Thuan Phuoc Bridge. Spread over the Han River, the dragon’s head faces My Khe beach, which is said to symbolise the development aspirations of Da Nang City. While the Dragon Bridge has a total of six traffic lanes and two sidewalks, it is closed off to traffic from 9 pm. Pedestrian access will get limited from then to make way for the spectacle on weekends and holidays — five minutes of pure fire-and-water-breathing magic!

Da Nang Cathedral

Da Nang Cathedral, also known as the Pink Church, is the cathedral of Da Nang Diocese in central Vietnam and is the only church built in Da Nang city during the French colonial period. The 70 metre-high cathedral is affectionately named by the locals ‘Rooster’ (Con Ga) Church because of the rooster that sits atop the impressive steeple.  Its Gothic-style design incorporates several medieval stained glass windows of various saints, earning it a medal by the Vatican Holy See.

According to an explanation from the priest behind it, Louis Vallet, the rooster on the roof of the church is not in fact the symbol of France, but is a symbol associated with St Peter’s story in the Gospel about repentance and awakening. Built in 1923 for Da Nang’s French colonial population, the cathedral is an easy half kilometre walk from the CBD. The church officially opened its doors on 10 March 1924 with the purpose of serving the French Catholics who lived in Da Nang at that time.

Linh Ung Pagoda

The Son Tra Goddess of Mercy is the unofficial symbol of Da Nang city, similar to Rio de Janeiro’s Christ The Redeemer. Known as one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations for Buddhists in Vietnam, the Quan Am statue sits high on Monkey Mountain and treats visitors to a view of the entire city. Conversely, wherever you are in Da Nang, you will be able to spot it leaning on the mountain and facing the sea.

Bà Nà Hills

Singapore To Da Nang VTL 2022: Cost Guide To Flights, Attractions & More

You can’t go to Da Nang and not go to Bà Nà Hills. As part of Sun World Amusement Park Group, Sun World Bà Nà Hills is dubbed the most significant resort and recreational complex of Vietnam. 1,487 metres above sea level, the resort has earned the name “heaven on earth” because of its sweater-weather temperature and beautiful natural landscape. It’s also home to a world record-breaking cable car system — the hill station is equipped with five cable car routes, many of which smashed world records and won international awards with the accumulated capacity of nearly 7,000 passengers per hour!

When you make your way there, be sure to visit the French Village, which re-enacts an old fashioned and tranquil France lined with recognizable classical landmarks such as the square, church, town, old village, and inns. There’s also the iconic Golden Bridge, a massive structure held up by two rocks in the shape of hands — truly an impressive sight!
