Looking for more Halal options in Singapore to dine at over the long weekend? From Muslim-owned bakeries to Halal-certified brunch places, we’ve got you covered!
Despite being known internationally as a foodie’s paradise, Singapore can be surprisingly limited when it comes to options that cater to various dietary restrictions. While all that is changing because of an exciting new wave of inclusive young hawkers and entrepreneurs, it does require quite a bit of research to sieve out the best ones. But that’s where we come in. First up? The best Singapore Halal cafes on the island!
What Is ‘Halal’?
When translated from Arabic, ‘Halal’ refers to that which is lawful or permissible. On the flipside, ‘Haram’ is whatever is unlawful and impermissible. For a cafe to be Halal-certified, it would need to apply for Halal certification from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). There are, however, levels to this. For example, cafes that serve Halal food but offer alcoholic drinks are considered Halal-friendly, whereas, Muslim-owned cafes are, in good faith, expected to abstain from serving their patrons anything that they wouldn’t themselves have.
1. Missus
Muslim-Owned

If you’ve been around long enough, you would know to sniff around the neighbourhood of Jalan Besar when in search of a good cuppa joe or a pastry. This is where you’ll find Missus, a fairly new addition to Hamilton Road, understatedly polished in fifty soothing shades of beige and wood. You’re here for their selection of grilled cheese sandwiches (there are six kinds, available after 11 am) — more specifically, Missus Melt that comes with roasted garlic tomato soup and sweet chilli tapioca chips. For something more substantial, go straight for the Slumdog Grillionaire and wash it all down with speciality coffee from State of Affairs.
Opening Hours: Wednesdays to Mondays, 10 am to 8 pm. Closed on Tuesdays
Address: 16 Hamilton Rd, #01-05, Singapore 209186

With two locations under its belt (neither of which are actually in Woodlands), this legendary sourdough bakery is a failproof option for whenever you’re in the mood for fresh pastries. The menu here is everchanging, so come expecting anything — or just keep an eye out for their Instagram Stories, where they usually announce any menu switch-ups. Don’t leave before trying any of their delicious brews from Cata Coffee.
Opening Hours: Thursdays to Sundays, 8.30 am to 3 pm
Address:
Longhaus 👉🏻 183 Upper Thomson Rd, #01-03, Singapore 574332

3. Mother Dough

For savoury bakes often inspired by local delicacies, head over to Mother Dough on Jalan Kledek. Like Woodlands Sourdough, we would suggest keeping tabs on their social media platforms for any special limited-time-only bakes. However, if you’re planning to make an impromptu drop-in, we highly recommend their Almond Croissant and Lemon Drizzle Cake.
Psst! For good coffee nearby, pop over, just two doors down, to Double Up on Jalan Klapa.
Opening Hours: Wednesdays to Saturdays, 11 am to 6 pm
Address: 3 Jln Kledek, Singapore 199259

4. Indo Bowl

Run by the folks behind Royz et Vous, IndoBowl uses authentic recipes that have been passed down for more than 60 years from Sumatra, Indonesia. As you might have guessed, the base of each dish is Indomie — but garnished to the nines, and available in both Sambal Balado and Sambal Ijo.
It’s simple but also ridiculously satisfying — that’s the genius of IndoBowl.
Opening Hours: Daily, 12 noon to 3 pm, and 5 pm to 9 pm
Address: 39 Sultan Gate, Singapore 198487

5. Pita Bakery
Halal-certified

Situated on Bali Lane, Pita Bakery is a no-frills hole-in-the-wall doling out impeccable Middle-Eastern nosh. Personal favourites include their falafel, baba ganoush and hummus dips, and, of course, their soft and fluffy pita bread. When in doubt, go straight for their Fill Free Sandwich which sees said pita bread stuffed to the brim with falafel, hummus, fresh salad, tahini, pickled mango, and a heavenly dash of harissa.
There aren’t many seats here so it’s definitely not one for big groups. If you’re here during peak hours, be prepared to have your meal to go.
Opening Hours: Daily, 9 am to 9 pm
Address: 29 Bali Ln, Singapore 189865

6. La Fez Cafe & Bakery
Muslim-Owned

Nestled beside Kota88 on East Coast Road, La Fez Cafe & Bakery is a vision in pink perfected with elegantly carved arches and gold accents. Despite their contemporary exterior, expect nothing less than traditional Moroccan methods, spices and earthenware to be adopted into the offerings served here. We recommend ordering their veggie-friendly Majorelle Shakshuka which sees poached eggs, tomatoes, pepper sauce and feta cheese bubbling gleefully in a tagine pot — served with sourdough toast.
Alternatively, treat yourselves to a Moroccan-inspired high tea (S$69 for 2 pax) that takes place daily from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Opening Hours: Tuesdays to Sundays, 12 noon to 9.30 pm. Closed on Mondays.
Address: 907 E Coast Rd, Singapore 459107

Friends in the East — heads up! Located on the west side of Tampines is a family-friendly cafe serving up fluffy waffles and freshly churned ice cream. Crowd favourites include the Roasted Pistachio, Signature Dark Chocolate, and Baked Apple. However, for a stronger pick-me-up, we recommend ordering their Affogato served with a shot of espresso on the side.
To keep the party going, they’ve also got a ton of fresh bakes that you can take home with you after.
Opening Hours: Daily, 11 am to 10.30 pm
Address: 802 Tampines Ave 4, #01-11, Singapore 520802

The next time you’re along Owen Road, look out for this Asian-fusion smokehouse just a stone’s throw away from Farrer Park MRT. You’re here for their choice cuts cooked to perfection — think Black Angus beef brisket smoked for 12 hours and doused in luscious barbeque sauce then smoked again till caramelised. Choose from the killer lineup of mocktails to pair your meal with — and end it all on a high with their Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé.
