The savings are real on most routine procedures. This guide prices six JB clinics against Singapore rates, so you know what you’re saving and which clinics Singaporeans use.

Is a JB Dental Clinic Really Cheaper Than Singapore?

Panoramic dental X-ray of a full set of teeth on a monitor beside a dental chair light and handpieces

Yes, for most routine work, but the gap narrows for anything complex. A scaling session that costs S$60 to S$220 in a Singapore private clinic runs 100 to 180 MYR (~S$31 to S$56) in JB. Teeth whitening is where the gap is widest: S$450 to S$1,500 in Singapore versus 300 to 800 MYR (~S$94 to S$250) across the border.

How Much Dental Treatment Costs in Singapore (the Baseline)

Singapore private clinics charge roughly S$60 to S$220 for scaling and polishing and S$100 to S$400 for a simple filling, according to TheSmartLocal’s October 2026 guide. A simple extraction runs S$70 to S$600 depending on the clinic and tooth, with yourjbhood at the low end and TheSmartLocal at the high end.

For one clinic’s published prices, Nuffield Dental’s price list shows scaling and polishing from about S$141, with GST added on top. Surgical or wisdom-tooth extractions can run well past the simple-extraction range, up to about S$1,700 depending on complexity. Polyclinics and CHAS-subsidised visits cost less than private clinics, but come with longer waits.

Why JB Prices Are Lower

Rent, staff wages and overheads are lower in Johor than in Singapore, and the ringgit’s weaker exchange rate against the Singapore dollar makes the saving bigger still. Lower rent and wages don’t mean worse dentistry. They mean a JB clinic can charge less for the same procedure and still make a profit.

How Much Do You Save on Each Procedure?

Scaling, fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns and whitening land at roughly 50 to 85% less in JB. Braces land at about 45 to 60% less, and Invisalign at about 20 to 60% less, because its Singapore prices start lower. These percentages are our calculation from the price ranges in this guide, so use the figure for the procedure you’re booking.

How Much Does a Dental Procedure Cost in JB?

A dental procedure in JB typically costs 20 to 85% less than the same procedure in Singapore, depending on which one you’re booking. The table below breaks it down, procedure by procedure.

Singapore figures come from TheSmartLocal and yourjbhood price breakdowns, with Nuffield Dental’s price list as a single-clinic reference. Crown, whitening, braces, Invisalign and implant ranges come mainly from Nuffield’s price list and yourjbhood. Savings percentages are our calculation from the ranges shown.

JB figures sourced from JDT Dental, Ten Dental Clinic and E&E Dental’s own listings, cross-checked against TheSmartLocal and SethLui’s JB dentist guides.

⚠️ Every clinic quotes per case after an X-ray and assessment. Treat every figure here as a starting range, not a fixed fee.

Why Does a Root Canal Cost More Than a Filling?

A root canal is priced per tooth, and each extra canal adds to the fee. A front tooth has one canal and is the cheapest, while a molar has three or four and costs more, before you’ve even added the crown that usually follows.

In Singapore, that crown alone can run another S$800 to S$2,700, depending on the material. In JB, the equivalent crown runs 1,000 to 1,500 MYR (~S$313 to S$469). The total saving gets bigger once you add the crown on top of the canal work.

When JB Isn’t Cheaper

The saving shrinks or disappears entirely on anything that needs several follow-up visits spread over weeks: Invisalign fittings, a crown that needs a second sitting, orthodontic adjustments. One commenter on a Singaporean dental vlog reported paying close to 12,000 MYR (~S$3,750) for braces in JB. That’s only a modest saving over a Singapore quote once you’ve priced in the repeat Causeway trips.

⚠️ That figure is a single, unverified comment, not a confirmed clinic quote. Add up every return trip before you assume a multi-visit treatment is cheaper in JB.

Check what a quote includes, too. yourjbhood’s price breakdown advises asking whether X-rays and follow-up checks are included in a root canal or implant quote. Some clinics bundle them and others charge separately. It also notes that braces need regular visits over 18 to 24 months, though other sources give similar or longer ranges depending on the case.

An implant involves surgery, a healing period of a few months and then crown placement. Each of those stages is another crossing, which is how an implant can end up with little or no saving at all.

JB Dental Clinics Singaporeans Actually Use

Singaporeans keep recommending the same handful of clinics, clustered around Taman Pelangi, KSL and Mount Austin, all a short drive from the checkpoint. These are the ones with published, checkable prices. Opening hours and drive times below come from TheSmartLocal’s October 2026 JB dental guide unless stated, and drive times are off-peak, so add buffer for checkpoint traffic.

Most of these clinics are listed as open in recent guides rather than confirmed by dated clinic posts, so check they’re open when you book.

JDT Dental

JDT Dental sits on a quiet stretch of Taman Pelangi and holds a 4.9-star Google rating from more than 2,000 reviews. Scaling and extractions run 120 to 180 MYR (~S$38 to S$56), and root canal treatment starts from 900 MYR (~S$281).

  • 📍 41B Jalan Kuning 2, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru
  • 🚗 About 8 minutes’ drive from the checkpoint
  • 🕘 Daily, 9 AM–6 PM (one source, so confirm when booking)
  • 💰 From 120 MYR (~S$38) scaling, 900 MYR (~S$281) root canal

Ten Dental Clinic

Ten Dental Clinic sits on the same street as JDT Dental in Taman Pelangi, and runs some of the lowest prices on this list. Extractions run 100 to 180 MYR (~S$31 to S$56), root canal treatment from 800 to 1,500 MYR (~S$250 to S$469), and braces from around 7,000 MYR (~S$2,188). It carries a 5-star Google rating from over 1,300 reviews.

Best for readers comparing two clinics in one trip. JDT and Ten Dental are on the same street, so it’s realistic to get quotes from both before committing.

  • 📍 63 Jalan Kuning 2, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru
  • 🚗 About 10 minutes’ drive from the checkpoint
  • 🕘 Daily, 9:30 AM–6:30 PM (one source, so confirm when booking)
  • 💰 From 100 MYR (~S$31) extraction, 800 MYR (~S$250) root canal

E&E Dental

E&E Dental is described by TheSmartLocal as JB’s first Invisalign Diamond Provider, handling over 400 Invisalign cases a year. A general dentist here quotes Invisalign from around 11,000 MYR (~S$3,438); a specialist orthodontist for more complex bite corrections runs from 13,000 MYR (~S$4,063). It holds a 4.8-star rating across 800-plus reviews.

Listings disagree on whether it’s in Taman Pelangi or neighbouring Taman Abad. The clinic’s own Google Business address places it on Jalan Harimau Tarum in Taman Abad, a short walk from the Taman Pelangi cluster.

Best for Invisalign specifically. For routine scaling or fillings, JDT or Ten Dental are the cheaper pick.

  • 📍 76 Jalan Harimau Tarum, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Bahru
  • 🚗 About 9 minutes’ drive from the checkpoint
  • 🕘 Daily, starting at 8 AM or 9:30 AM depending on the source, so confirm when booking
  • 💰 From 11,000 MYR (~S$3,438) Invisalign

IDEA Dental

IDEA Dental sits in Mount Austin and is open daily until 6:30 PM, with scaling and polishing at 120 to 220 MYR (~S$38 to S$69). A second branch at 18 & 20 (GF) Jalan Pingai sits in Taman Pelangi, about a 13-minute drive from the checkpoint. The Mount Austin branch suits Singaporeans combining a clinic visit with the area’s cafes and malls.

  • 📍 77 Jalan Mutiara Emas 2A, Taman Mount Austin, 81100 Johor Bahru
  • 🕘 Daily, until 6:30 PM
  • 💰 From 120 MYR (~S$38) scaling

TAG Dental Clinic

TAG Dental Clinic, also in Mount Austin, is the one clinic on this list that advertises a 24-hour emergency service, seven days a week, by appointment. It sits further out than the Taman Pelangi clinics and offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation for anxious patients. Fillings and extractions are reported from 200 MYR (~S$63), and root canal treatment at 400 MYR (~S$125) per canal, though the clinic’s own site doesn’t list prices.

⚠️ The clinic’s own site pairs its 24-hour service with “book appointment before visit” instructions, and no independent source confirms walk-in access at any hour. Treat it as “call and book ahead, any hour,” not “turn up unannounced at 2 AM.”

Best for an emergency, or a late-night trip when nothing else on this list is open, provided you call first.

  • 📍 Suite 20-17, Austin 18 Versatile Business Suites, Jalan Austin Perdana 3, Taman Austin Perdana, 81100 Johor Bahru
  • 🕘 24-hour emergency service by appointment, so call to book rather than assuming a walk-in works
  • 💰 From 200 MYR (~S$63) filling or extraction

Pink & White Dental

Image Credits: Pink & White Dental

Pink & White Dental, on Jalan Tebrau, is open on weekends and public holidays. Scaling is reported at about 150 to 180 MYR (~S$47 to S$56), though the clinic’s own site doesn’t list prices. The weekend hours help if a weekday trip isn’t realistic.

  • 📍 A-03-08, Blok A, 1 Tebrau, Jalan Tebrau, 80250 Johor Bahru
  • 🕘 Weekdays 9 AM–6:30 PM, weekends and public holidays 9 AM–5 PM (per the clinic’s own site, so confirm when booking)
  • 💰 From 150 MYR (~S$47) scaling

More Clinics Singaporeans Mention, Unverified

Singaporean social posts and comments name a longer list. We couldn’t confirm current prices or hours for any of these, and in a couple of cases the exact address. Treat them as leads worth a phone call, not recommendations.

  • Taman Pelangi, Taman Abad and Taman Sentosa: SG Dental Clinic (24 Jalan Perang, Taman Pelangi), SmiLings Dental, Koh Dental Clinic, Hong Specialist Orthodontic Clinic (for braces) and CH Tee Dental Clinic (for braces).

  • Mount Austin and Eco Botanic: Joy Dental, Cove Dental and The Smile Dental Lounge.

  • Inside JB City Square mall: IMC City Square Medical Centre. One July 2026 guide lists it as an easy walk from the checkpoint, but we couldn’t confirm it’s still operating, its hours or the exact route, so call before you plan a visit around it.

  • Tebrau and Larkin: SHiNEE Dental and Dental Legacy.

  • Other areas: the i-Sihat chain (Bandar Dato Onn, Bukit Indah and Pasir Gudang branches) and Toothland Dental Clinic in Kulai, which is further out.

  • Area not confirmed: Asiaa Dental Clinic, Lim Dental Surgery and i.Dental.

How Do You Know If a JB Dentist Is Good?

Check the dentist’s name against the Malaysian Dental Council register first. Every dentist practising in Malaysia must be registered under the Dental Act 2018, and the council’s own pages link through to a practitioner-name search tool. An unlisted name is a red flag, so don’t book.

Clinic-level licensing is handled separately by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health, so a registered dentist and a properly licensed clinic are two different checks, not one.

Beyond registration, Singaporean patients most often mention four signals:

  • Diagnosis before sales. Clinics that explain the problem and the options before quoting a fix, rather than pushing straight to the most expensive treatment, come up repeatedly in positive reviews.

  • A written, itemised quote. Ask for the breakdown in writing before you commit, especially for anything over a few hundred ringgit.

  • A review count in the hundreds or thousands, not a handful. JDT Dental’s 2,000-plus reviews and E&E Dental’s 800-plus are harder to fake than a dozen five-star reviews, which is the pattern to be wary of.

  • Short or no wait for an appointment. Several Singaporean reviewers specifically flagged this as the difference versus Singapore, where a first available slot can run weeks out.

How to Get to a JB Dental Clinic from Singapore

Most clinics here are a short drive from the checkpoint. The Taman Pelangi and Taman Abad clinics are about 8 to 10 minutes away, and Mount Austin sits further out. The bigger decision is how you cross, not which clinic you pick.

  • Woodlands Causeway (car, bus or on foot): the direct route into Taman Pelangi, Taman Abad and the KSL cluster, where most of the clinics above sit. Weekends and Singapore public holidays are the busiest days at the clinics, and weekday appointments are easier to get, with a shorter Causeway queue.

  • Train + Grab: if you’re not driving, the KTM Shuttle Tebrau train runs between Woodlands and JB Sentral (check KTMB for the current timetable), and a short Grab gets you to the Taman Pelangi and Taman Abad cluster. The RTS Link isn’t running yet. Its latest official target is February 2027, subject to safety certification and approvals, with the opening date and fare still to be announced. Our Train to JB Guide breaks down the rail options and fares.

  • Driving yourself: if you’re taking a Singapore-plated car across, you’ll need a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) with the RFID tag installed and activated before you cross, or you risk a fine; our VEP Malaysia guide covers how to apply. If you’d rather not drive your own car, our Car Rental JB Guide covers renting on the Malaysian side instead.

  • Grab within JB: the standard way to move between a clinic, lunch and the checkpoint, and generally cheap by Singapore standards.

Medini, Mount Austin and Eco Botanic sit further out than Taman Pelangi. If your clinic is in one of those areas, budget extra travel time into your appointment slot rather than cutting it close.

How to Prepare for Your First JB Dental Visit

  1. Shortlist two or three clinics and book ahead

Popular clinics near the Causeway fill up quickly on weekends and Singapore public holidays (yourjbhood reports the same). Many JB clinics take WhatsApp bookings, which beats calling across the border. Ask for a written quote range for your specific issue, including whether X-rays and follow-up checks are in it, and confirm the dentist’s MDC registration if you haven’t already checked it yourself.

  2. Bring your dental records and recent X-rays if you have them

A JB clinic can’t pull your Singapore dental history, so bringing whatever your regular dentist can print or email saves a redundant set of X-rays and speeds up the first visit.

  3. Time your crossing around the appointment, not the other way round

Build in extra buffer on weekends and Singapore public holidays, when clinics are busiest.

  4. Ask about the full sequence upfront for multi-visit treatment

Root canals, crowns and orthodontic work often need two or more appointments spaced weeks apart. Get the full schedule and total cost before you start, not after the first visit.

  5. MediSave doesn’t apply at a JB clinic, and insurance may not either

CPF says MediSave is generally not for dental work except selected surgical procedures, and it can’t be used for outpatient treatment overseas, which rules out a Malaysian dental clinic. Dental cover under Singapore insurance plans varies by insurer and policy, so check your policy wording before assuming treatment at a Malaysian clinic is covered.

If your treatment needs more than a same-day visit, consider staying over rather than doing two Causeway crossings in one day. Our 16 Best JB Hotels guide covers places to stay near the Taman Pelangi and KSL clusters.

Which Dental Treatments Aren’t Worth Doing in JB?

Emergencies and treatment that needs many follow-up visits aren’t worth taking across the border. A dental emergency, like a knocked-out tooth, uncontrolled bleeding or facial swelling, shouldn’t wait for a border crossing. Deal with it at the nearest Singapore clinic or A&E first, where you won’t be navigating an unfamiliar system in pain.

Most clinics on this list close by early evening. TAG Dental Clinic is the one exception, with a 24-hour emergency service by appointment. For anything urgent after hours, read its profile above. Then call before you set off.

Treatment that needs many follow-up visits, such as braces adjustments, saves less once you count every return trip. The saving on a single visit is real. Across six visits spread over a year, it shrinks once you’ve priced in the time and the trips.

How to Pay for JB Dental Treatment

YouTrip app showing currency balances beside a purple YouTrip card, set against a city skyline at dusk

Pay the clinic bill with your YouTrip card if the clinic takes cards. It’s charged at the wholesale exchange rate with no foreign transaction fee. MYR is also one of YouTrip’s 12 lockable currencies. For a bigger treatment like Invisalign or a crown, you can lock in a rate ahead of time instead of taking whatever rate lands on the day.

⚠️ Confirm which clinics on this list take card before you go. Several smaller clinics are cash-preferred or card-with-surcharge, so a quick “do you take card?” when you book avoids a surprise at the counter.

For the cash-only clinics, withdraw ringgit from an ATM in JB instead of a money changer. The first S$400 of overseas ATM withdrawals each calendar month is free with YouTrip, then a flat 2% on the amount after that, resetting on the 1st of every month.

A money changer marks up the exchange rate by a few percent, so you lose money before you reach the clinic. Our Malaysia ATM Withdrawal Guide covers which machines to use and what they charge.

FAQs

Is a dental clinic in JB really cheaper than Singapore?

Yes, for most routine procedures. Scaling, fillings and extractions typically cost about 50 to 85% less in JB, and teeth whitening about 80% less. Invisalign saves less, at roughly 20 to 60%. The saving narrows for treatments that need several follow-up visits, since every return trip adds time and travel cost.

How much does tooth extraction cost in Malaysia?

A simple extraction in JB typically costs 100 to 300 MYR (~S$31 to S$94), compared with S$70 to S$600 in a Singapore private clinic. Surgical or wisdom-tooth extractions cost more on both sides of the Causeway, and can run well past S$1,000 in Singapore.

Why is root canal treatment so expensive?

The fee is charged per tooth and climbs with the number of canals in that tooth, plus most root canals need a crown afterwards, which is priced separately. In JB, a root canal runs 600 to 1,800 MYR (~S$188 to S$563) and a crown adds 1,000 to 1,500 MYR (~S$313 to S$469). Even combined, that’s well under the equivalent Singapore cost.

What’s the cheapest dental clinic in JB?

Ten Dental Clinic quotes among the lowest prices on this list, from around 100 MYR (~S$31) for extractions. Prices still depend on your specific case, so get a quote before assuming the lowest listed figure applies to you.

Is it safe to see a dentist in JB?

Generally yes, provided the dentist is registered with the Malaysian Dental Council, which you can check directly. Stick to clinics with a high review count, and ask for a written quote before treatment starts. If a dentist skips straight to the most expensive option without explaining the diagnosis, treat that as a reason to get a second opinion.

Can I use Singapore insurance or MediSave for JB dental treatment?

Not MediSave. CPF says MediSave can’t be used for outpatient treatment overseas, and it’s generally limited to selected surgical dental procedures even in Singapore. Insurance varies by insurer and policy, so check your policy wording before assuming a Malaysian clinic is covered.

Will my employer accept a medical certificate from a JB dentist?

Check with your employer first. MOM’s sick-leave rules refer to practitioners registered in Singapore, and MOM doesn’t say how an MC from a Malaysian clinic is treated. Ask HR before you book any treatment that needs recovery time.

Is JB Dental Work Worth It? Yes, for One-Visit Procedures

Dental mirror, extraction forceps, filling syringes and two tooth models laid out on a blue surface

A scaling session, filling or extraction in JB is worth the trip for the saving alone. For braces, implants or other treatment that needs several visits, add up the cost of every return trip before you decide, since the travel can cancel out the saving.

Pick a clinic from the list above, check the dentist’s MDC registration, and get a written quote. Tap your YouTrip card when the bill comes. For more on making a day of the trip, see our JB Korean BBQ guide and Dim Sum JB guide.
