What a year 2021 was, with the start of Vaccinated Travel Lanes and travel as we now know it — it was indeed a tumultuous time. However, based on our stats, that didn’t stop YouTroopers from venturing back out into the world! As we step into 2022 and await the reopening of VTLs, we looked back on the last two months of your travel behaviour: what you’ve been spending your cash on, where you’re been spending it at, and how much you’ve spent with your YouTrip card. Based on that information, we came up with four profiles to predict what kind of traveller you’ll be in 2022. Plus, a quiz to help you figure out which one you might be. Scroll down to get started!
Types Of Travellers
(A) Bargain Warriors
Bargain warriors are YouTroopers looking for a good deal. Penny-pinchers who will fly anywhere as long as they know it was well worth it. Even if that means going the extra mile. They are on all the ‘best promos & deals’ Telegram groups and are often the go-to person for the best lobang. They perfected ‘ballin’ on a budget’.
Will Travel To: Anywhere cheap or on sale — places with good deals included. Bangkok, Taiwan, China, Hongkong, Japan and Korea
Will Spend On: Good deals, budget eats, and groceries
Favourite Merchants: Trip.com, Booking.com, Shopee, Pret A Manger, McDonald’s
(B) Big Spenders
Big spenders are YouTroopers who have adopted Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings as their financial anthem. However, they don’t just love luxury goods — having 7,000 Taobao items they adore is as good as having a Chanel bag, in their books. As much as their YouTrip card balance would allow them to at least. If they had to admit a weakness during a job interview it’ll be impulse shopping.
Will Travel To: The UK, USA, France, Italy, Maldives
Will Spend On: Trendy items, high fashion & luxury experiences and stays
Favourite Merchants: Chanel, Hermes, Kagi Maldives Spa Island, Galeries Lafayette, Starbucks
(C) Gastronomist
Gastronomists (a.k.a foodies) are YouTroopers who live to eat. They do not mind setting a huge chunk of their salary aside just to try out the latest or buzziest restaurant in town. Yet don’t mistake them for being boujee — they will sniff out the grittiest hole-in-the-wall eateries and street food in the land as long as it’s tasty and exciting. 33.3% of the time, however, they are either craft beer, natural wine, or coffee snobs.
Will Travel To: Anywhere with good food. Obviously Japan. But also, South America, Thailand, Malaysia, India, France and Italy.
Will Spend On: Food and drink
Favourite Merchants: UberEats, Flat Iron, Gold Mine Restaurant, Rapid Cafe
(D) You are an Eat-Pray-Love-r!
Eat-Pray-Love-rs are YouTroopers finding inner peace through mindful adventures outdoors and in new environments. There’s a renewed sense of importance for the experiential aspect of travel, especially when it comes to engaging with others from various cultures and backgrounds. They are all about making the most out of connections and situations wherever they are in the world.
Will Travel To: Anywhere exotic or any place blessed with mountains. Think Alaska, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Eastern Europe and possibly the Stans
Will Spend On: Experiences of all kinds
Favourite Merchants: Winter Wonderland (London Christmas Market), Universal Studios, Viator Tripadvisor UK, Walt Disney World,
