With the recent leaks and breaches in consumer data, we’re taking this opportunity to reassure our fellow YouTroopers. Here’s a look into how we keep your data safe and what you can do to stay vigillant!
We’re sure you’ve heard the recent news of how 20,000 Starbucks customers’ data were leaked and sold online for $3,5000. Or how Indonesia is currently hunting for Bjorka — a hacker selling 1.3 Billion SIM card users’ data. And if that wasn’t bad enough news, Revolut just reported a data breach in September 2022 where over 50,000 customers’ information was exposed after a third party gained access to its database. Even Morgan Stanely is facing a $35 Million fine after hard drives with 15 million customers’ personal data show up on an Internet auction.
In times like these, it’s good to remain aware of what you can do to keep your data safe and we’re here to help you with that. Read on for more information on how YouTrip keeps your data safe!
1. We’re Compliant With Laws And Regulations

We’re Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) certified! This means that we’re compliant with security standards that were formed by the 5 payment card leaders (Visa, MasterCard, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, and American Express), to ensure that our customer’s card data and their transactions are safeguarded against data theft and fraud. We do this through installing multiple layers of firewalls, encrypting data in storage and in transmission, utilising anti-virus software, safeguarding our networks and applications, and conducting regular security testing and annual audits.
In addition, we hold the Major payment institutions (MPI) license in Singapore, which according to MAS means our entity is “licensed and regulated under the Singapore Payment Services Act (“PS Act”) to provide payment services without being subjected to the specified thresholds”. Passed by the Parliament in 2019, the PS Act is a forward-looking framework for the regulation of payment systems, payment service providers, and FinTech just like us in Singapore. It provides regulatory certainty and consumer safeguarding while encouraging innovation and growth. Not forgetting to mention that we’re also compliant with local Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) laws and regulations.
2. We Conduct Regular Security Tests And Assessments

Here at YouTrip, we have an internal Risk Management Program, curated in accordance with industry laws & regulations, industry standards, and the industry’s best practices. This Risk Management Program is used to assess and test all our systems internally, on a continuous ongoing basis to ensure we maintain the best possible security controls for our systems and your data, ensuring we stay compliant with all regulations. To top that, we test, assess, and update our systems and networks regularly with approved external vendors and tools too. This further helps ensure we can identify any security risks and potential vulnerabilities, so as to rectify them immediately.
3. Encrypted Data, Availability, & Strict Access Control

Data is kept encrypted at all times in our data centre as well as in transit — data when being transmitted between the user’s mobile app or website and our data centre. All your data in the data centres are protected using best-in-class, industry-standard, and the latest encryption technologies such as Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and RSA. Through multiple layers of encryption technologies such as Transport Layer Security, Encrypted Token Access System, and SSL certificates, your data is protected against unauthorised access during transmission as well.
To top it all off, our cloud infrastructure is duplicated across multiple data centres to ensure continuous availability and accessibility. We ensure to have multiple servers with enough bandwidth to handle all your requests, without any delays and/or interruptions to service.
In layman’s terms, hackers won’t be able to simply access and extract customer data from our systems. Additionally, as a company, we maintain close and strict control over who is able to access what information and resources within the organization.
4. 3D Secure Authorisation
YouTrip and YouBiz cards have a 3D Secure (3DS) authentication feature enabled that helps protect your online transactions. With 3DS in place, merchants (if they have enrolled in 3DS) will prompt you to authorise your transaction during the checkout process of an online transaction. YouTroopers will then have to authorise their payment using either the YouTrip app by sliding the confirmation button, tapping the ‘Reject’ button, or entering the SMS OTP. This helps you determine whether an online payment is being made with your authority.
5. Secure Destruction And Deletion Of Your Data

Following the end of the life of any hardware, here at YouTrip we securely delete all data and follow secure disposal procedures. Any physical, magnetic, or electronic medium containing your data is properly shredded, destructed, wiped, or degaussed to stay safe from data retrieval and data theft.
6. What Can You Do To Further Protect Your Data?

Beware of any scams ongoing! Scammers may attempt to contact you via SMS, email, phone calls, etc. They’ll promise you “huge rewards” or tell you a serious problem has occurred and needs to be solved “immediately” to instill panic and chaos. Some scammers will even request confidential information such as your ID number, full 16-digit card number, CVV number, ATM PIN, or OTP.
It’s always good to stay vigilant. If you spot a scam SMS/email/call, any entity conveying wrong or suspicious information, any dubious MMS/email attachments, or any explicit urgency implied, do stop and think twice! Don’t click on any suspicious links in SMSes and double-check any links or attachments sent to you, even in emails! And lastly, keep a record of when you receive any abusive or offensive messages, and report them to us and the police, especially if you incur any monetary loss.
f you notice anything unusual on your YouTrip account, drop us an email at fraud-reporting@you.co or call us at our 24/7 hotline (+65 6904 9334) and we’ll be here to sort things out for you.
