As you know, when it comes to Filipino food, this isn’t our first rodeo. In our initial foray, we sampled Gerry’s Restaurant and Bar where we pigged out on portion-heavy dishes with a ton of personality. With each bite, we were instantly transported by our taste buds to the various parts of the Philippines — from the sandy beaches of El Nido to the warm gritty streets of Manila. So, naturally, we couldn’t get enough!

You’re here for their eclectic mix of dishes that range from jalapeno and cheese poppers to a peanut butter stew. Find this cafeteria-style restaurant in the heart of Orchard Road during your next lunch break. Reminiscent of Nasi Padang, there’s a wide variety of dishes here that you can help yourself to. Rumour has it that they’ve even got their in-house bakery that cooks up delicious and authentic Filipino dessert for customers. Popular dishes include their Beef Marrow Stew, Beef Tapa and Halo Halo.

Have their crisp yet succulent cuts on a hot plate, in a stew, soured in a soup, or just chopped up on a platter — the world is your oyster!

4. Lucky Cafe

Planted right smack in the middle of the CBD, this unassuming Halal restaurant caters to the masses with an extensive menu that encompasses everything from dim sum to western food to Filipino fare. For something heartier, go for their Sizzling Chicken (aka Sisig). But they’ve also got a mean Bulado and Abodo that’s great for sharing with friends.

Known as ‘The House That Fried Chicken Built’, Max’s Restaurant is a go-to for all your hearty fast food cravings. The next time you’re in Orchard, pop by this restaurant located in Far East Plaza for their deep-fried marinated milkfish, the pinakbet Tagalog and of course, Max’s fried chicken! Scheduled to open their doors at Lucky Plaza soon, the famed pizza parlour from the Philippines is about to make thin crusts a thing again. You can expect favourites like the Shakey’s Special, but meat lovers should prioritise the Angus Steakhouse Pizza for succulent chunks of meat paired with roasted onions and mushrooms — topped with crispy potato strings for extra carby decadence. We can’t wait!

8. Tapa King

Usually fried or grilled, Tapa is essentially meat that has been dried or cured with salt and spices. So expect nothing but flavour-packed mouthfuls with each bite at Tapa King’s. To ensure that the spotlight remains on the meat, the restaurant mostly serves the meat with a simple side of plain rice and egg.
