1. YouTrip
Pros: The YouTrip card supports more than 150 currencies which is a lot more than most other multi-currency cards in the market. It also allows you to store up to 10 different currencies so you can lock down a good rate when you see one, which can come in handy if you are travelling to multiple countries. Based on the rates that you lockdown, you might even be able to score on savings if you’re looking to buy items like Chanel.
Cons: Unlike traditional credit cards, using multi-currency cards means losing out on cashback and mile rewards that can add up to quite a lot especially if you’re buying big-ticket items or if you travel frequently.
Estimated price of Chanel Classic Handbag: ~S$11,932
2. UOB Mighty FX Multi-Currency Card
Pros: The MightyFX app allows you to make transactions and convert currencies with ease. You can choose to convert currencies immediately, or to set your preferred exchange rate and be notified when it’s met – yay for more savings!
Cons: The exchange rate on the app is set by UOB, which is typically weaker than the interbank mid-market rate. This means that there still may be some hidden costs within your transaction. There’s also a daily spending limit of S$1,000 which may not be ideal when it comes to buying branded goods.
Estimated price of Chanel Classic Handbag: ~S$12,246
3. American Express True Cashback Card
Pros: Off the list of different credit cards, the American Express True Cashback Card has one of the most competitive foreign currency transaction fees. You also get a bonus of 3% cashback on the first S$5,000 spent within the first 6 months, which may be a good idea if you are planning to make a large purchase soon.
Cons: Of course, just like most credit cards, there are additional transaction and annual fees that can add up to quite a lot. Unless you’re certain that you will make use of the card often, these additional fees may outweigh the cashback and other rewards that you get.
Estimated price of Chanel Classic Handbag: ~S$12,338
4. Standard Chartered Rewards+ Credit Card
Pros: The Standard Chartered Rewards+ card has one of the higher cashback rates, which means higher savings for future purchases. This card is good if you are looking to purchase big-ticket items quite frequently
Cons: This card also has one of the higher foreign currency transaction fees as compared to the others. It’s important to make sure that you check to make sure that the transaction fees don’t diminish what you make from cash back savings!
Estimated price of Chanel Classic Handbag: ~S$12,402
5. OCBC 90°N Card
Pros: If you’re a frequent traveller, the OCBC 90°N card reaps great rewards for you! Earn 2.1 miles per dollar, or convert these miles to 1.2% cashback on overseas transactions. There is no expiry on these miles which is important especially during these unprecedented times. You can also enjoy different Mastercard Airport Experiences like access to airport lounges worldwide.
Cons: The cashback rate on the card is not as competitive as the other cards, so it’s a better option only if you will make use of the miles that you accumulate.
Estimated price of Chanel Classic Handbag: ~S$12,338
