In its launch announcement Trust said it will “soon expand Freedom to also introduce miles”, though no rates or date have been published. Up to 1.5% unlimited with no cap beats the old 1%, and the quarterly category still pushes to 15%. YouTrip doesn’t do everyday cashback.

Overseas is where you have to read the fine print. Three things are worth knowing before you pick Stockback for a holiday.

1. You only get one mode at a time. Optimise for overseas and you give up the 15% local bonus category. Optimise for groceries and your foreign spend drops back to 0.5%. You can rotate each quarter, but you can’t have both in the same quarter. YouTrip doesn’t ask you to choose.

2. Stockback isn’t cash. Your rewards buy fractional shares in a US stock or ETF you pick from Trust’s list. They sit as rewards until they reach S$10 in value, then get invested automatically. That’s an investment, not a discount, and its value moves with the market. Cashback is worth what it says on the day you earn it. A share isn’t.

3. The 3% is a promotion, not a rate. It runs to 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027 the overseas rate drops to 0.5%, which puts you back where the cashback modes already are.

Trust’s rewards also sit on top of a personalised 18.9%–29.9% p.a. interest rate if you carry a balance, and the overseas ATM route is an 8% cash advance with interest from day one. YouTrip is prepaid, so there’s no interest to carry and your first S$400 of overseas ATM withdrawals each month is free.

A quick worked example. Say you spend S$2,000 in Malaysia. At the rates above, YouTrip’s wholesale rate gets you about 36 MYR more than Trust’s Visa rate, roughly S$11 for the same dollars. Trust’s 0.5% overseas cashback hands back around S$10, so on the spend itself the two are almost neck and neck.

Switch to Stockback and Trust’s 3% returns about S$60 in shares. That’s the better number on paper. It’s also a stock position that ends in December, and you can’t spend it on your next trip.

The real tiebreakers are YouTrip’s rate-lock (exchange in-app before you go) and fee-free ATM withdrawals, versus Trust’s 8% cash advance fee on overseas cash.

Overseas ATM Withdrawals Compared

Need cash abroad? This is now a clear win for YouTrip after Trust’s 2026 changes, and the rebrand didn’t touch it.

ATM

YouTrip

Trust Freedom Card

Overseas withdrawal fee

Free up to S$400 per month, then 2%

8% cash advance fee on amounts over S$5 (from 1 Feb 2026), plus 18.9%–29.9% p.a. interest charged daily from the posting date

Daily withdrawal limit

S$5,000 (S$2,500 in Malaysia)

Subject to your cash advance limit

Exchange rate used

Mastercard wholesale rate

Visa rate

For travel cash, YouTrip is the cleaner option.
