Genting Highlands is a strange place that seems to morph as you grow older. When I was a kid, it was a place of fast food and theme parks. Touching twenty, it became an indie music festival ground. At the same time, older folks would often head over for a good gamble session. Whatever your reason for heading to higher ground, the cheapest way over is by bus and cablecar. Bus tickets (RM 5) can be purchased at KL Sentral. The bus will drop you off at Awana Bus Terminal, which is where the cable cars (RM 9) are located too. It\u2019s literally all uphill from there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By far the best thing I\u2019ve ever done in Kuala Lumpur was to scramble and trek up a crystal quartz ridge 30 mins from the city known as the Dragon\u2019s Back. As you ascend through the forest, the trees gently part to unveil stunning views of the lakes and mountains on one side, and the city on the other. Just be warned that the journey is about 6 hours long and you will sweat buckets. Fortunately, it includes a delicious breakfast that awaits you when you\u2019re done. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
