While beer may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think Hong Kong, it\u2019s actually home to some of the best beers in the region, and arguably the world. So beer lovers planning a holiday to the city, rejoice! Here are some of the best local craft breweries you won\u2019t want to miss when you\u2019re in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their name pretty much sums up their influence on the Hong Kong craft beer scene. While only beginning operations in 2013, these guys are considered to be the brewery that kickstarted a craft beer boom in the city. Now well-known among beer enthusiasts across the region, Young Master brews can be found at many bars in the city that stock craft beer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A brand inspired by Chinese folklore, and a brewery that\u2019s influential across Hong Kong. Moonzen has made waves with its unconventional approach to beers \u2013 coming out with brews made with Sichuan peppercorns, Pu\u2019er tea, and many other unique ingredients, resulting in beers that are unlike any you’ve tried before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit their weekly brewery tours to see the methods behind their madness, as well as their own bar, Moonkok by Moonzen, to try out what they have to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Yardley Brothers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Started as a personal hobby-project of two brothers, Yardley Brothers has grown to have a cult following, especially in Lamma Island where they first started brewing. Now boasting several international beer awards to their name, the brothers also run their own bar called The Beer Shack, right in Lamma Island, where they serve up their unique brews. Their brewery in Kwai Hing is also open for tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look out for their novelty batches as well, and get a taste of their experimental brews when you pay a visit!

In 2017, the duo behind Gweilo opened a high-tech, US$5 million brewery in Fo Tan<\/a> \u2013 the largest brewery in Hong Kong. It goes some way to describing the scale of growth the brewery has seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known for its hoppy, refreshing pale ales, Gweilo sticks to doing what it does best \u2013 with just 6 core beers in its distribution list, along with the occasional limited releases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This brewery takes local brews to a whole new level. Making use of locally-sourced ingredients like Goji berries and dried longans, Mak\u2019s resulting beers are extremely distinctive in both taste and aroma, while being distinctively Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of what \u201cshould\u201d go into a beer (sugarcane stouts?), you can\u2019t go wrong trying out Mak\u2019s for a boozy taste of Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
