It looks to be a digital or a physical certificate which certifies that you have the antibodies as a result of recovering from COVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/the_americas\/chile-coronavirus-immunity-passport-antibody-testing-card\/2020\/04\/20\/8daef326-826d-11ea-81a3-9690c9881111_story.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">The Washington Post<\/span><\/a> reported that Paula Daza, an undersecretary in Chile\u2019s Health Ministry, said the 4,600-odd people who have recovered from COVID-19 will be eligible to receive immunity passports. They also reported that other applicants will be tested for the antibodies to see if they\u2019re eligible or not, and that the immunity passports will be issued to those with a very \u201chigh probability\u201d of being non-contagious. Whether this extends to those who are negative in the first place, remains a question to be answered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udd27 Immunity Passports Are a Band-Aid Fix to a Larger Problem <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientists and healthcare professionals aren\u2019t convinced that the immunity passport is a reliable indicator of both antibody testing as well as its supposed claims of immunity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hannah, who did not want her surname to be revealed, is a 24-year-old registered nurse who has dealt with many COVID-19 patients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI still think quarantine is very much necessary, because we\u2019ve been seeing news that there\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7177092\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d78\" class=\"color\">secondary incidences of infection<\/span><\/a>,\u201d she says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reuters reported in April 2020 that South Korea had seen 116 reinfected cases of COVID-19. Upon investigation by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.go.kr\/board\/board.es?mid=a30402000000&amp;bid=0030&amp;act=view&amp;list_no=367267&amp;nPage=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">Korea Centers for Disease Control <\/span><\/a>in May 2020, it was found that patients were likely shedding noninfectious or dead virus particles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, Hannah remains unconvinced. \u201cYou never know what happens in the plane or who\u2019s got the virus in the airport.\u201d, she adds. \u201cIt\u2019s not like chicken pox or other diseases which we\u2019ve already developed a vaccine for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has a point. Scientists say that, in order to develop the antibodies needed to combat COVID-19, you have to be infected by it in the first place. For most people who are negative, this seems to be the only way until a vaccine arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\ude10 Ethical Problems Arise Too<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Alexandra Phelan, a member of the Center for Global Health Science and Security at Georgetown University, writes in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(20)31034-5\/fulltext#%20\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">The Lancet<\/span><\/a> that \u201cby replicating existing inequities, use of immunity passports would <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(20)31034-5\/fulltext#%20\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">exacerbate the harm inflicted by COVID-19 on already vulnerable populations<\/span><\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She opines that governments might see this as a band-aid fix for economies to restart, which could ultimately see them fail to adopt and implement economic policies to protect health and welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83d\udeaa Another Doorway to More Data Breaches in the Future<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To issue these immunity passports, governments and healthcare authorities must collect personal data about the patients, be it location for contact tracing or people they\u2019ve come in contact with, among many others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Singh, 27, a data analyst, says, \u201cHaving all of it in a database is good, because then you can find patterns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut if someone [malicious] gets their hands on it, they can target those people and discriminate. It\u2019s a constant battle. Eventually people will find a way to hack and then you have to upgrade again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He points towards the past cases of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/singapore\/singhealth-health-system-hit-serious-cyberattack-pm-lee-target-10548318\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">SingHealth<\/span><\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-47288219\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">HIV<\/span><\/a> data breaches that happened in 2018 and 2019 in Singapore, respectively. In both cases there were malicious actors involved, looking to expose innocent individuals for their own nefarious motives. In the case of the SingHealth data breach, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/news\/singapore\/singhealth-health-system-hit-serious-cyberattack-pm-lee-target-10548318\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d78\" class=\"color\">Channel NewsAsia<\/span><\/a> reported that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong\u2019s data was targeted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cisecurity.org\/blog\/data-breaches-in-the-healthcare-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">Center for Internet Security<\/span><\/a>, the average cost of one\u2019s personal health information is US$363 (~S$505.70). In comparison, one\u2019s personal credit card information goes for only US$2 (~S$3.40) on the black market. The reason for this?
