You&#8217;re not alone \u2013 70% of Singaporeans still hope to go on a holiday in 2020 and 40% are willing to visit COVID-19 hotspots in 2021!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>2020 has been like a game of Jumanji. The first half <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/negative-oil-prices-hoarding-toilet-paper\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">plummeted oil prices into negative for the first time in history<\/span><\/a> while <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/science\/asteroid-nasa-near-miss-earth-emails-2019-ok-a9113846.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">Earth almost got hit by a &#8216;city killer&#8217; asteroid<\/span><\/a>, and the second half is about to begin with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-53297864\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">Kanye West and his alleged bid for the US presidency<\/span><\/a>. If anything&#8217;s a constant in 2020 at all (other than the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/cheapest-nintendo-switch-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">global shortage of Nintendo Switch<\/span><\/a>), it&#8217;s our ruined travel plans \u2013 thanks to Miss Rona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Brian Pearce, the Chief Economist at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), predicts that <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/when-can-we-travel-again\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">travel will only resume to 2019 levels in 2023<\/span><\/a>, it seems that our love for travel remains undeterred. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With less than six months until the end of the mad year, 7 in 10 Singaporeans are holding out hope to travel in 2020. Among them, the biggest group (35%) is actually millennials aged between 25 to 34 years old, who already have immediate travel plans for 2020. \ud83d\ude32<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Highly Anticipated Countries \u2708\ufe0f<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>During the last few months of Circuit Breaker, I&#8217;ve admittedly spent <em>way too much time<\/em> dreaming about my next flight out too. As part of our travel survey, we&#8217;ve also asked Singaporeans to reveal the countries they want to travel to immediately once border restrictions are lifted, and these are the top 10 countries in order of popularity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf5 Japan<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddf9\ud83c\udded Thailand<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddf2\ud83c\uddfe Malaysia&nbsp;<\/li><li>\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddfa Australia<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddf0\ud83c\uddf7 South Korea&nbsp;<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddf9\ud83c\uddfc Taiwan&nbsp;<\/li><li>\ud83c\udde8\ud83c\uddf3 Mainland China&nbsp;<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddff New Zealand&nbsp;<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddee\ud83c\udde9 Indonesia<\/li><li>\ud83c\uddfb\ud83c\uddf3 Vietnam<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s surprising is that 40% of Singaporeans are actually willing to travel to COVID-19 hotspot countries in 2021. Well, with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.todayonline.com\/world\/chinas-sinovac-starts-late-stage-trials-its-covid-19-vaccine-2\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">COVID-19 vaccines progressing into late-stage trials<\/span><\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/coronavirus-travel-update-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">countries gradually reopening their borders<\/span><\/a>, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/airlines-resume-flights-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">flights starting to fly out of Changi Airport<\/span><\/a>, this could be the glimmer of hope we all need in 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travel Promos Are Irresistible \ud83c\udf0e<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>More than anything, we love a good deal and 58% of Singaporeans admit that they&#8217;re enticed by promotional prices to resume travelling in 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the majority, it&#8217;s revealed that \u201cPay Now, Travel Later\u201d promotions with at least half-priced discounts are the most attractive. Rightfully so, since Brian Pearce estimates that flight tickets will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iata.org\/en\/iata-repository\/publications\/economic-reports\/covid-19-cost-of-air-travel-once-restrictions-start-to-lift\/\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">cost 43% to 54% higher<\/span><\/a> than pre-Rona prices, due to in-flight social distancing policies that may become <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/future-of-air-travel-after-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">the new normal for the future of flying<\/span><\/a>. \ud83d\ude22 Of course, factors like the flexibility of stay and eligibility for full refunds will also be a big consideration for those looking to snag travel deals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travellers Just Wanna Have Funds \ud83e\udd11<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s not to say that Singaporeans will be scrimping on their next holiday though! In fact, 85% of Singaporeans are prepared to spend more on their next holiday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4 in 10 are willing to budget 30% or more for their upcoming travel plans as a way to compensate previously cancelled travel plans. <em>Quick maffs: higher budget = more shopping, yay!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>No Travel Plans? No Problem \ud83e\udd19<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For other Singaporeans who haven&#8217;t made any immediate travel plans, most have chosen to set the money side for other purposes. Here&#8217;s what Singaporeans are doing with their money instead:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u2614\ufe0f Save for rainy days: <strong>28%<\/strong><\/li><li>\ud83d\udecc Indulge in local staycations: <strong>15%<\/strong><\/li><li>\ud83d\udecd Retail therapy with local shopping: <strong>14%<\/strong><\/li><li>\ud83d\udc18 Visit local tourist attractions: <strong>5%<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, if I can&#8217;t travel soon, I&#8217;ll most likely be <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/best-womens-activewear-brands-lululemon-gymshark-4505\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">splurging on my favourite activewear brands<\/span><\/a> and consider <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.you.co\/sg\/blog\/best-online-fitness-programs-home-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color:#702d82\" class=\"color\">signing up for a celebrity fitness program<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How about you?
