Now, at the time of writing, this is out of stock but they’ve put up a notice that the Nintendo Switch is backordered, which means that stocks are on its way. When it will be available is unclear, but the combination of affordable pricing and shipping fees is hard to beat, so you’ll want to sign up for the notification for when it goes up on sale.

Why BicCamera<\/strong>: Don’t let its name fool you, because BicCamera is more like BigBox \u2013 they’re a giant electronics department store where you can find everything under one roof. Because they’re so big, they can afford to keep prices low.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of prices, admittedly, this isn’t the lowest price. This would have been the lowest price if it wasn’t for Miss Rona, because if you were to step foot in Japan and walked to the BicCamera store, you’d be paying only JPY29,980 (~S$397.10). This is because you’re exempt from paying tax.

Why The Source<\/strong>: Amazon might seem like the most obvious choice, but I don’t know if you’ve noticed that the same item can be listed at different prices. You’ll spend hours on Amazon (which is what they want you to do) trying to get the cheapest price, but you won’t usually find it because it’s a network of different sellers, much like Carousell. The Source is the best because they charge according to the recommended retail price (RRP) whichever store you go, be it physical or online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, you might have noticed in the table that the shipping is unusually high compared to the other countries. Why it’s so expensive is beyond me, but I’d hazard a guess that mail from Canada has to be routed through the US to make its way to Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Currys PC World<\/strong>: There are a lot of electronics retailers, as well as the official Nintendo Store in the UK, but Currys PC World is the only one that offers email notification for when Nintendo Switch comes back on the shelves. It also goes without saying that they charge by RRP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a more general note, a really big plus if you order from the UK is that you can ship by vPost. Unlike other freight forwarders, they charge only by actual weight. The weight of the package itself is only 1.5kg, so chances are, the estimated shipping fee you see is what you can expect to pay.

Why MediaMarkt:<\/strong> “I don’t speak German but I can if you like”, rused Lady Gaga and being the little monster that I am, I will translate what MediaMarkt means. If you haven’t guessed it, it means “media market” in English, and aptly so, because it’s one of the biggest electronics department stores in Germany. Staying competitive means they have to charge RRP, and that’s good for you because you don’t pay markups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’d advise that this be your last resort because it’s the costliest option in this list (but it’s still a far cry from the S$852 that Play-Asia is asking). The price for the Nintendo Switch itself is alright, it’s just that the shipping is super expensive. On the plus side, what you pay in the shipping is the promised 2 to 3 working day delivery time, whereas you’ll wait up to 8 days for the rest of the options. Only get it if you can’t wait and are bored to death at home! What’s your happiness compared to a mere S$75, right?
