Comgateway is a popular freight fowarding service that helps to forward your USA purchases to Singapore – here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it!
Love products from the USA but they don’t ship to Singapore? Enter Comgateway, one of my favourite freight forwarding services in the USA. Comgateway is also one of the most popular and reliable USA forwarders around!
It may be daunting for first-timers who haven’t tried forwarding services, but hey, there’s really nothing to worry about. In this guide, I’m gonna show you step-by-step how to use Comgateway to get your favourite USA products that don’t ship to Singapore:
1. Find Shipping Weight
Now that I’m stuck at home (thanks to Miss Rona) and most probably not going to see anyone, getting fashion is really the last thing on my mind, and maybe yours too. On the other hand, skincare is an everyday maintenance kind of thing, and for me, it just so happened that my supplies finished during this unfortunate period.
If I’m going to come out of this quarantine, it better be with a glow-up, so I’m looking to try something a little more expensive than my current routine. I found this cute little Kiehl’s gift set that comes with a face wash, toner, mask, and serum – and all for a reasonable price BUT it doesn’t ship to Singapore! This is where I’m going to use Comgateway’s freight forwarding service.
The first thing I’d do is to find its shipping weight. Usually you can scroll down the product page to find it, and in this case it’s 1 pounds. Comgateway uses kilograms as its metric of measurement, so I gotta convert 1 pounds = ~0.45kg.
2. Use Comgateway’s Shipping Price Calculator
Now that I’ve gotten the shipping weight, I’ll estimate the shipping price with Comgateway’s shipping calculator. For my package, standard shipping costs US$14.87 (~S$21.20), while express shipping costs US$17.06 (~S$24.40).
Pro tip: If you’re buying a lot of items, you can even consolidate the shipping to save even more money!
If your product doesn’t state a shipping weight, here’s what you can do instead:
- Input your product URL into Comgateway’s Live Estimate tool, which does a live estimate of the product’s shipping weight. OR
- Just go ahead with your order (if you know it isn’t going to be heavy) and wait for the product to show up at Comgateway’s address, where they’ll give you the final shipping price.
3. Get a USA Shipping Address
Signing up is a simple 2-step process. I couldn’t be bothered to input my email and password so I just used Google sign-in. You can also use your Facebook or Twitter account to sign in.
Click on the menu bar on the top right hand corner to find a personalised USA address issued by Comgateway.
4. Checkout With USA Shipping Address
On my Amazon checkout page, I proceed to input my Comgateway USA shipping address into Amazon’s delivery address. As for payment method, I’m relying on my trusty YouTrip card because local bank-issued cards usually charge additional fees and/or markups for foreign currency transactions.
With YouTrip, however, I’ll be taking advantage of the Wholesale Exchange Rates with no pesky fees. Remember to always pay in foreign currency and in this case it’s US Dollars (USD). If you have trouble paying directly with your YouTrip card, simply just add it to your PayPal account to make payment.
5. Add Your Local Address on Comgateway
Then, you’ll want to go back to Comgateway to add in your local address so you’ll get the package you paid for! As mentioned in step 2, once your package arrives at Comgateway’s address, they will calculate the actual price of shipping your package, so keep a lookout for when it arrives.
Until then, busy yourself with something else, like going down into 7 of Reddit’s rabbit holes or continue your shopping spree on Taobao with our Taobao Shopping Guide and Taobao Shipping Guide.
Conclusion
Comgateway is more like “come, get away” because this freight forwarding service is a great way to bridge the gap between you and products that don’t ship outside of the USA. Hopefully, these five easy steps on how to use Comgateway can help you in your USA purchases!
And remember, make sure to use your YouTrip card to utilise YouTrip’s Wholesale Exchange Rates for favourable USD exchange rates!
